Cantilever Umbrella

A cantilever umbrella, also known as an offset or side-post umbrella, provides expansive overhead shade without the obstruction of a center pole through the middle of the seating area. The support arm extends from a heavy base positioned to the side, arching over the covered zone and allowing complete freedom of furniture arrangement beneath the canopy. This engineering solution is particularly valuable over outdoor dining sets, lounge areas, and hot tubs where a center pole would interfere with use. Premium cantilever umbrellas offer impressive functionality, including 360-degree rotation for all-day sun tracking, adjustable tilt angles, and canopy sizes reaching up to 13 feet in diameter. The offset design requires a substantially heavier base—often 200 to 300 pounds of concrete, sand, or granite weight—to counterbalance the extended arm and prevent tipping.
