Sateen Sheets

Sateen sheets are woven using a four-over, one-under pattern that floats more yarn on the fabric surface, creating a distinctive silky smoothness and subtle luminous sheen. This weave structure, adapted from the satin weave traditionally used with silk, produces a warmer, more draping fabric that glides against the skin with a luxurious feel. Sateen's light-catching surface adds an element of glamour to the bedroom that is impossible to achieve with matte percale or casual jersey weaves. The trade-off for sateen's beautiful drape and sheen is slightly reduced breathability compared to percale, as the denser surface structure traps marginally more heat. This makes sateen an excellent choice for cooler climates or for those who prefer a warmer sleeping environment. Sateen is also more resistant to wrinkling than percale, maintaining a smoother appearance after washing and making the bed look polished with minimal effort. The fabric does have a tendency to pill over time if made from shorter-staple cotton, so investing in long-staple or extra-long-staple cotton sateen ensures the luxurious feel endures through years of use.
