Holdback

Holdbacks are wall-mounted hardware pieces that hold curtains open to the side of windows, serving the same function as tiebacks but as permanent fixtures rather than fabric or rope elements. Metal, wood, or resin holdbacks become decorative accents that contribute to room style. Unlike fabric tiebacks that encircle curtains, holdbacks typically feature a projecting arm or hook that curtains drape over or behind. This creates a slightly different silhouette and allows easier adjustment of how much curtain is held back.

Placement & Usage Tips

Mount holdbacks at the same height as tiebacks would position (one-third up from floor typically). Ensure they project far enough from the wall to accommodate curtain fabric bunched behind them.

Coordinate holdback finish with curtain rod finials and other hardware in the room—this creates the designer look of intentional metal coordination throughout the space.
